Planning for Song-Exploder
For the first 4 weeks of Trimester 5 I was working on Song-Exploder project. Song-Exploder is a podcast where musicians take part of their sound each by each and tell the stories of how they made. So, for this project I have to learn about the producer that I admire, the way he write to recording and mixing. So for this project I made a cover song of Numb by Linkin Park into Trance version style the ReOrder.
Exploring, Research and Learning about ReOrder production techniques
I've been producing Trance for a while now and in the past 3 months I started trying to do research and produce to be sound like certain producers I inspire. In April, 2017 I made a remix for the label and that track was also try to be sound like one of the producer I inspired Bryan Kearney ft. Plum - All Over Again. And when trimester 5 i have another chance to work again so this time I choose different producer ReOrder. ReOrder is Trance Producer / DJ from Martin, Slovakia. He had releases on most of the biggest trance labels such as WAO138?, Armada, Future Sound Of Egypt, Subculture and more. Luckily for me I found some of the tutorials by ReOrder on Youtube.

And for then for the Sub Bass I boost around 180 Hz if not it feels like there is lack of information around that area. For the Sub Bass I used one-shot sample and then put it back in the sampler then also compressed hard along with sidechain kick. I also try to add PsyTrance bassline but turn down the volume.
In the track like Magic Light from ReOrder he give more PsyTrance bassline than Uplifting Trance bassline. To get more rolling feel and energetic I tried to vary the note like - - - , - _ -, _ - _ . So when it plays together it give more energy and rolling feelings.
For the pads I layer it up for like 3 sounds. One have a strong and good sound in low end, another one is good with mid and another one for high frequencies. And also try to boost high mid and high frequencies and do corrective EQ to cut off woohs and wahs. And then sidechain those with the kick send bus and try to add delay and reverb in the mixing. Also to get sound wider I put Centre Studio plugin to make it wider and send certain frequencies to left and right and left some frequencies in the middle.
For the lead I wrote it back according to the Linkin Park chords. Normally, Uplifting Trance leads are more like arp sounds based on chords.
But when it comes to ReOrder style it's a bit different he use the chord strike style.
So I tried to get it sound similar to that way. And when it comes to lead processing I did similar way to pads layer 3 sounds from Sylenth 1 / Spire VST and try to EQ it and Compressed with Sidechain Kick send.
Another challenge part for me is the drop (around 1:42) in the track "Venice Beach"
Since I can't find about how to make it I try to use Stab sounds and Arp Bassline. Then rise up the pitch then after 16 bars go down back to the uplifting drop together with the main lead.
