Stepping into new part of Audio Industry ‘Post Production’ (Week 10)

For the last intensive of Trimester we have to do Post Production which is a new area for me. I end up doing foley along with other fellas in the good. For sound for film it’s a bit different way to approach with things when it is compared to music. But as an audio engineer it’s still all about critical listening. So we just tried to done some foley in the studio with the equipments we had. One of the biggest challenged in the video clip we chose to work on is the car crashing through the door in the building and hitting the desk. What we did for it is we tried to drop some pieces for broken glass floor tiles and recorded that sound. Then put those glass floor tiles on the ground and drop some metal rods together. After that we tried to drop metal rods and wood rods at the same time so we tired to get all different sounds and layer it and give reverb to get the sound we want.

Then we tried to get door closing and opening sounds from the scene. We walk around SAE with Zoom and record some different sound of the doors. Then we also tried to record the footsteps that terminator did. It’s more like walking exactly as the way terminator walking in the scene and tried to fixed timing according to it.

It was really fun that trying to do follies, give a critical listening and try to replicate it.
