As a job for audio engineer I believe we have work on different kind of genres and music we like or not. Every genre have different style of mixing that I believe because each genre focus on different kind of elements. Mainly what I worked on and listen is electronic music so when I have to mix unfamiliar genre I give a listen the tracks of the genre that I have to do mixing. So I have some ideas how I can mix it. But in live situation that might be a bit different. My first preparation for live gig will be listening to the bands before I prepare the live sound stage for them. So I can do a rough mix how the way they want according to their recordings. So first what I gonna do is EQing the PAs first after they sound great I will try to start doing corrective EQ for different elements such as Kick, Hats, Snare, Tom, Guitar etc. After corrective EQ i’ll give a listen to their tracks and try to match what kind of reverb, delay they use on their tracks and how they EQ to get their sound.
