Copyright is a form of intellectual property applicable to certain forms of creative work. it is also a fundamental thing to earning income in the music industry. There are many different kind of copyright in music industry rights for music, lyrics, sound recordings, performance and published editions. Copyright is important as it is the recognition of creativity, innovation and imaginations. Most of the songs that are recorded have copyright. Whether you are a musician or manager or publisher or a record company the income is based on copyright

Expressions
Works (such as musical, artistic works that include photographs and etc…)
Subject matter other than works (such as sound recordings, broadcasts and film)
For the copyright who owns it ?
The general rule is that the author of the song has the owner of copyright. The author of the music has the composer of copyright. Lyricist owns the copyright of the lyrics. For the copyright of sound recording is for someone who owns the recording at the time that the recording is made.
How long does copyright last ?
Musical composition and the lyrics (Lasted for 70 years from the end of the year in which the author died)
Sound recordings (From 50 to 70 years based to the agreement of the copyright term)
Publish Editions (25 years from the date of their first publication)
Films (70 years from first publication)
It is also important for musicians and artist to have fair dealing when they signed on labels or management.
